Organizational Expectations:
As a site reliability engineer or senior you will provide technical knowledge to stakeholders and end users ensuring continuous normal operations. You will drive bank quality initiatives by supporting the applications product life cycle while keeping abreast of current technologies to enhance applications architecture and software design and development. You will ensure supported applications are functioning and available by developing solutions to minimize downtime and maximizing performance.
General Responsibilities:
Works under moderate supervision and proficiency, using standard procedures to provide technical assistance and operational guidelines for business operations and application development to ensure applications are running optimally in production, test, and development environments
Provides rotational 24x7 on-call support as necessary by the business, with minimal assistance from Senior staff. Assist with data analysis, capacity plans, and execution of contingency plans. Understands and can trace transaction, batch, and file processing flows.
Develops moderately complex solutions (utilizing available tech stack) for non-operational requirements, such as to improve ability to effectively monitor application services in a large-scale and complex environment.
Analyze moderately complex customer needs to create solutions within an increasing scope. Design, code, and test high-quality, performant, secure solutions and with limited assistance.
Ensures that supported application services are highly available, reliable, and performant through monitoring, alerting, and notification.
Collaborates in identifying repetitive, manual and scalable tasks and with minimal guidance, automates them using scripting/programming languages or tools.
Using identified key operational metrics and the data necessary to create them, Implements and maintain dashboards based on the current operational needs. Test and ensure that all infrastructure components meet proper performance and capacity standards.
Consults with stakeholders on moderately complex issues related to the impact of development on the infrastructure, works with system engineers and developers to define tech stack configuration settings, participates in new application and infrastructure designs and architectures meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Adhere to the Bank's attendance policies through regular and prompt attendance.
Education and Experience:
Site Reliability Engineer: Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of related work experience or Associate's Degree with 5+ years of professional work experience.
Site Reliability Engineer Senior: Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of related work experience or Associate's Degree with 7+ years of professional work experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to read, comprehend, and create complex technical documentation.
Ability to read and comprehend business operational requirements.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex and communicate complex technical analysis to technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong communication skills; verbal & written. Ability to articulate clear and concise instructions and resolutions.
Experienced baseline knowledge of AWS Cloud Platform technologies, infrastructure, and practices in production environment for engineering and Development of operational need, including CloudWatch, Cloud Trail, ECS, Lambda, Canaries, DynamoDB, RDS, PostgreSQL, S3, API Gateway, Elastic Load Balancer, OpenSearch, Grafana, AWS X-Ray, SQS, Fault Injection Service (AWS FIS).
Engineering and development for operational needs using GitLab, CDK (preferred), Terraform, Grafana, OpenSearch, Docker and CI/CD pipeline.
As needed for engineering and development of operational requirements Coding languages, such as Python, Typescript, NodeJS, .NET, Java, Infrastructure as Code, Configuration as Code, Alerts and Monitoring as Code.
Familiar with Deployment patterns and version control, Familiar with ITIL framework, Resiliency concepts and Disaster Recovery, and Chaos Engineering.
Physical Demands and General Working Conditions
Traditional office environment: Employees typically sit most of the day, work with a computer and may answer/respond to phone calls. Physical movement consists of walking for meetings, breaks, etc. Ability to lift items weighing approximately 20 pounds on a limited basis is required. Addendum as needed: Employees may be required to travel by car/air.
