To assist with the oversight of shift operations in an Ambulatory Unit. Clinical Nurse Lead is responsible for: the development and coordination of activities that promote clinically effective and efficient patient care; collaboration with the nurse manager in maintaining the operational aspects of the patient unit; supervision and evaluation of assigned personnel; consultation and collaboration with other health care team members to provide safe appropriate patient care; the ability to balance operations management and professional practice; and direct supervision and/or communication with the care team including management and staff rounds.Minimum Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred. | Licensed to practice professional nursing in the state of Ohio (minimum registered nurse). | Two (2) years of clinical and supervisory nursing experience preferred relevant to the specific assigned clinic's that are within the prevue of this position.PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY):
Engages in population appropriate communication.

Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
Ensures quality of patient care under the direction of immediate supervisor:
Oversees the care delivered by all clinical personnel.
Directs department staff to assure patient safety and adequate clinic function.
Formulation, operationalization and evaluation of outcome based care delivery practices / processes, e.g. clinical pathways, care protocols, etc. directed at defined customers(s) needs / expectations.
Development / refinement and / or operationalization of policies: Unit based, departmental and / or institutional.
Development / implementation of processes to be used in recruitment, selection, hiring and training / orientation of staff needed to maintain established standards of care.
On a periodic basis, review current JCAHO Ambulatory Standards and compare to practices within assigned clinics. Work with physicians and staff to assure compliance with JCAHO and other pertinent, accepted standards of care.
In emergency situation (fire, natural disaster, mass casualty, combative patient and / or visitor) direct staff to assure patient safety and adequate clinic function.
Ensures cost efficiency of care delivery under the direction of the immediate supervisor:
Contributes to formulation, implementation and evaluation of established budget plan.
Formulation presentation of processes to be used in recruitment, selection, hiring and training / orientation of all staff needed to maintain established standards of care.
Develop successful strategies to achieve established Ambulatory Clinic goals. On a monthly basis, review Ambulatory Services dashboard report metrics for assigned clinics. Collaborate with supervisor to assess progress toward annual goals and develop action plans.
Manage assigned ambulatory clinics within budgeted level of expense and work to enhance patient volume and revenue, for which process includes monthly review of budget variance reports with supervisor and contribute to development of action plans to correct budget variances.
Identify operational needs for assigned ambulatory clinics including but not limited to needs related to: capital equipment; medical supplies; office supplies; hours of practice; patient scheduling templates; minor equipment and equipment maintenance.
Assure that properly functioning equipment and adequate supplies are present in the clinic.
Report all unusual occurrences and incident reports to immediate supervisor.
Ensures patient and customer satisfaction under the direction of immediate supervisor:
Formulation, implementation and ongoing evaluation of monitoring processes needed to elicit feedback specific to patient / customer satisfaction.
In conjunction with medical leadership, promote health education for patients and patient families appropriate to an ambulatory setting.
Cultivate exemplary customer service throughout assigned ambulatory clinics.
Active preparation with staff / administration and physician staff under the direction of the immediate supervisor:
Establishment of an environment that utilizes the core values as communication expectations / standards of practice.
Conduct regular meetings for all assigned clinics to include: physician faculty, resident / fellows, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, technologists, clerical and other such personnel who work in assigned clinics. Meetings to follow frequency and format designated by immediate supervisor developed in consultation with medical leadership, management and staff including: shared development of agenda, selected metrics from Ambulatory Services management information system at each clinic meeting, participatory process, meeting minutes, defined process for reaching resolution of contentious issues, etc.
Spend a minimum of 30% of time in direct supervision and / or communication with clinic personnel (including medical director, other medical staff, nursing, technologists, clerical, etc.) including time spent during management rounds (rounding).
Attend Nursing Leadership monthly meetings and share key information with staff at team meetings.
Promote successful implementation and ongoing se of electronic medical record system within assigned clinics to include a training process for all new clinic personnel.
Manage various personnel actions within assigned ambulatory clinics including: hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, scheduling, positive reinforcement and counseling / corrective action.
Monitor staff absences and / or latenesses and formulates plans to provide coverage within defined parameters to assure continuity of patient care.
Set personal goals of self-improvement to develop and refine necessary job skills in an ambulatory clinic environment such as: accountability, planning prioritizing and time management, problem solving and innovation, initiative, active listening / flexibility, effective communications skills, identifying and recruiting talented associates, teambuilding and motivating / influencing.
Knowledgeable of Hospital and Nursing policies and implement these policies when appropriate.
Promotes and helps maintain efficient patient flow through attendance and participation in care coordination activities.
