Nurse Manager (Dermatology) (Finance)

Directs, supervises, and coordinates nursing staff to assure high quality, optimum patient care. Responsible for the management and evaluation of clinical personnel and may provide direction to operational, clinical and administrative staff in a clinic or clinics.
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Coordinates the schedules of the department physicians, administrative and nursing staff to ensure adequate coverage and maximum utilization of manpower.
2. Manages the duty assignments of clinical staff which includes, but is not limited to, Staff Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and Medical Assistants based on availability of physicians and patient load. May "fill in" to provide coverage because of illness, vacations, or emergencies.
3. Schedules for as many as 160 doctors who may see up to 700 patients per week.
4. Monitors departmental expenditures against a budget. May compile daily and monthly administrative reports. Works closely with Department Chairman's Office, Human Resources, Emergency Room, clinical quality and safety, Purchasing, area hospitals, and laboratories.
5. May be responsible for the economical/efficient and quality performance of assigned clinic/area. Formulates goals and outcomes using an evidence-based and theoretical analysis of available data to reduce patient and community risks.
6. Directs proper handling of patient records, coordinates with other medical departments and hospitals for admissions and scheduling, makes decisions involving personnel changes and assignments, type and quantity of supplies needed, and proper solution to any problems arising with patients over scheduling, appointments, or charges.
7. Handles phone calls from patients regarding medical problems and laboratory results. Refers questions or problems of an unusual medical or emergent nature to physicians.
8. Monitors and maintains inventory levels in order to assure efficient clinic operation.
9. Ensures compliance with specifications of regulatory and accrediting agencies in order to meet federal, state, and local standards. Utilizes tools of quality improvement to collect and report quality data.
10. Instructs subordinates in proper examination room techniques and procedures and often gives lectures and demonstrations of new procedures in order to update knowledge of nursing care.
11. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
12. Other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Current nursing licensure in the State of Texas
BLS Certification
ACLS/PALS Certification preferred
Certification in area of specialty preferred
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing school.
Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing school and 4 years of experience, in addition to the three years to meet the minimum experience requirement, may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.
Minimum Experience:
Three years of experience required; prior supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
