This is a full-time salaried position with the City with an anticipated hiring salary range of $70,000.00 - $87,000.00 a year! The Sales Tax Department is responsible for approximately 50% of the City's governmental revenue. Sales and use taxes are the key source of funding for core government functions like safety, roads, multi-use path infrastructure and parks. The Auditor II, Sales Tax & Revenue will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate collection, reporting, and compliance of sales and use tax revenues. Your responsibilities will include planning, scheduling, and conducting sales, use and lodging tax audits along with taxpayer education concerning sales and use tax, lodging tax, licensing and audit. With a keen eye for detail and strong analytical skills, you will collaborate cross-functionally to optimize revenue collection processes, uphold regulatory standards, and contribute to the fiscal health and transparency of our community.

Examine accounting records to verify transactions have been properly recorded and are in compliance with the City Code for sales and use tax, and lodging tax.Review audit results with business owner and/or representative, including procedures used, and applicable City Code.Review and approve construction project cost reports for tax reconciliation related to building permits.Review and investigate refund claims and exemption applications.Potential to serve as City representative in formal hearing related to disputes in tax assessments.Research and answer taxpayer questions regarding City tax and licensing regulations verbally and in writing.Educate taxpayers concerning sales and use tax, lodging tax, licensing, audit, collection procedures, and tax return preparation; including presenting the information in a classroom setting.Assist in reviewing, drafting, and revising City Code and regulations.Participate in process improvement efforts in the department.Advise, coordinate and manage relationships with IT and other vendors to support the sales tax department.Assist in special projects as assigned.Provides back-up to manager and revenue and licensing coordinators.Customer service contact. Responds to business representatives and citizens regarding tax questions and/or problems.Assists in developing and updating division procedures and policies.
