Accountant (Finance)

SUMMARY

Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties.

The salary for this role will be between $23 and $32. The specific salary offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to applicant's skills and prior relevant experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
Assists in the preparation of financial and management reports for internal use by the Bank.
Process and reconcile fixed assets and prepare personal property tax returns.
Assists in the reconciliation of the investment portfolio.
Assists in the processing of accounts payable.
Assists in the processing of prepaid expenses.
Maintains and reconciles general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts.
Assists with month-end close process.
Assists with processing foreign wires.
Reconcile the Federal Reserve Bank, Federal Home Loan Bank, US Bank account.
Reconcile ATM balances daily by comparing transaction reports and general ledger.
Reviews contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
Compiles reports for use internally and by government agencies.
Responds to inquiries from other areas of the company regarding accounting matters.
Supports internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and reports.
Analyzes and interprets computer reports.

Additional duties and responsibilities:

Maintains and assists in development of accounting systems and procedures.
Maintain up-to-date desk procedures for assigned duties.
Participates in and completes training objectives with passing scores.
Follows all Riverview policies and procedures.
Other duties may be assigned

RELATIONSHIPS:

Daily contact with supervisor to receive direction and interpretation of existing and new department procedures.
Daily contact with bank personnel and customers requiring resourcefulness, tact and diplomacy in the presentation and discussion of matters of a complex nature to advise others or obtain their cooperation and/or approval.
Contact with Internal Auditor in maintaining adherence to company accounting procedures and compliance with related government regulations.

Occasional contact with members of professions with whom the incumbent must consult from time to time, i.e., attorneys, accountants, and other financial intermediaries.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in accounting/finance; and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to multi-task and complete tasks timely.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
Ability to apply concepts such as interest accruals, discounts, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

This position requires a thorough knowledge of accounting theory, practice, and regulatory requirements. The position requires the basic skills associated with the general use of computers and other business office equipment. Ability to format spreadsheets and develop formulas in Excel and basic level skills in Word are required. Ten-key by touch is required. The ability to offer flexibility in a changing work environment is imperative. Position requires the ability to work successfully with other team members to maximize productivity.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate via phone/video, messaging, and email. The employee is required to use computer and office equipment such as a computer, printer, copier, as well as computer software such as Microsoft Office. You may also frequently be required to occupy a workstation for long periods of time.
