OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President Segment Leader, this role will function as a key member of the sales leadership team and be responsible for driving a profitable regional growth strategy in both new and existing sales channels within Region for the Select & Middle Market Segment (25 - 3,000 lives).This leader will have direct ownership of earnings and portfolio management of assigned Region, executing the overall sales strategy and implementing effective management processes needed to generate new sales and drive deeper penetration into existing accounts.
Working through and with the Market Growth Leaders and Underwriting Leaders, this position will look to maximize the local market value proposition to direct the overall expansion, sale and retention of new and existing business as well as identify key opportunities for integrated growth to expand market share. This leadership role will be "mission driven" and instrumental building and maintaining effective (and profitable) long-term relationships with a variety of high-value external partners at the broker and client level, ensuring high levels of customer and client satisfaction are achieved across multiple books of business; as well as setting the tone for a high-performing sales.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be a visible leadership presence within the Region, building and growing external relationships and partnerships. Oversee day to day sales and portfolio earnings, ensuring there is continued focus on execution towards growth and earnings goals as well as new sales, account persistency and client satisfaction.
- Serves as a trusted member of the Segment sales leadership team, bringing diverse expertise and proficiency in the areas of sales/Enterprise leadership and strategy execution; represents the buyer group to key internal matrix partners in order to support and promote market capability development and readiness needs.
- Strong partnership and maintains productive business relations with key matrix partners such as: Underwriting, Medical Economics, Provider Relations, Health Engagement, and Data Reporting/Analytics that support sales execution and overall medical cost improvement initiatives.
- Develops and implements the strategy to expand the market position for the segment and articulates the sales focus and vision for the West Region. Responsible for establishing sales targets in order to achieve (or exceed) all sales, relationship, financial and growth goals.
- Oversees the process of establishing customer acquisition plans that pinpoint profitable and/or potential customers (i.e., based on conversions and referrals), cross-sell opportunities and customer retention programs both at the buyer group and market level.
- Builds collaborative relationships across the Enterprise to achieve corporate, financial and market objectives while providing the very best in products and customer service; maintains strong external relationships with key broker and consulting firms in addition to key client and producers and partners across other Regions to ensure maximum value creation is achieved across the buyer group.
- Champions the development of innovative market solution and capability offerings that deliver expected sales, customer and earnings growth that aligns with the buyer group as well as Enterprise strategies and initiatives.
- Cultivates strong cross-buyer group and service team integration among the Enterprise and growth platform matrix organization, championing partnership and collaboration, self-coordination and strategic cooperation that promotes excellent in the local market and field.
- Represents Cigna in the community; develops and maintains strong external relationships with consulting houses, key customer accounts, health care professionals / delivery systems and civic organizations; has the ability to effectively handle media and/or public relations inquiries, as needed. Actively engaged and is a reflection of Cigna within their market to local, state and municipal organizations.
- Identifies opportunities and establish management processes that support overall market growth plans with an emphasis on growing both new and existing distribution channels that achieve membership growth as well as meet or exceed financial and profitability targets; drives and owns management activities of markets sales distribution leads and their respective sales teams.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare, or related field equivalent experience; Master's and/or MBA degree preferred.
- Minimum 15+ years in a strategic and leadership role in a service, sales, healthcare, health plan and/or broker/consulting environment; 8-12+ years leading and managing sales team(s) at a buyer group and/or market level.
- Broad knowledge, expertise and proficiency in all aspects of sales distribution, health care, external broker and customer/client relationship management.
- Ability to be an influential business leader who can impact and garner support from matrix partners across the Enterprise.
- Strong and proven leadership skills including a demonstrated ability to manage required actions in support of delivering on a vision/mission, communicating its purpose, and helping drive outcomes/results.
- Adaptable, flexible and able to lead the organization through transformation; proven track record of delivering results that are high quality, profitable and sustainable.
- Ability to effectively collaborate across the organization with other business units and influence actions/support through critical matrix and business partners.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills with internal and external clients and customers; develop strong working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.

- Ability to travel 50%+ (or as needed), both regionally and nationally as required.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 257,800 - 386,800 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
