Referral Coordinator (HIS) (Personal Services)
Receives and processes authorizations in a timely manner. Schedules all requests for referrals and treatment authorizations. Revising referrals when required based on availability and resources.
Obtains authorizations from various insurance carriers via phone, in writing or electronic media.
Schedules appointment for specialty care, special studies or other ancillary services as requested by the primary care physician.
Coordinates care within the guidelines of multiple health plans, contracts or insurance types.
Communicates referral criteria with clinicians
Responds promptly to inquiries as to current status of authorization by assessing the request and evaluating the circumstances to provide the correct information.
Initiates the appropriate documentation of requests from specialties offices for continued/ongoing care.
Follows-up on missing documentation to obtain authorization or scheduling when appropriate. Record status of referrals.
Uses various modules of the computer system to obtain information, schedule appointments, query information and obtain authorizations.
Indexes incoming reports pertaining to referrals for assigned specialties.
Sending out specialty reports for Inbound visits.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in a variety of decision making scenarios
Good attention to detail and ability to probe for information to fully understand the needs of the customer
Strong organizational and prioritizing skills
Ability to work within a team and to manage conflict
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Use of Partnership and other insurance websites for processing authorizations and verifying eligibility.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1 year of healthcare related experience in the area(s) of direct patient care, medical records, patient registration, scheduling, claims and/or information technology within a hospital or clinic, or the equivalent in education and experience
Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Associates degree in Health Information, Business, or related field.
Experience with NextGen
