Opportunity at a Glance
ACAMS moneylaundering.com is seeking an experienced reporter in Washington, D.C., to cover federal bills, rulemakings and events that pertain to money laundering and other financial crimes or impact the regulatory and legal responsibilities of banks and other financial services companies to identify and combat them. Candidates must have strong research and writing skills; learn their beat quickly and pitch their own stories; develop sources and collaborate with U.S. and U.K. colleagues; and file by deadline.
Responsibilities
· Observe, interview and research
· Gather facts and file accurate, clear, concise, interesting and timely copy
· Develop sources to maintain a flow of current news
· Pursue leads from sources, press releases and sometimes other news outlets
· Cover breaking news on short notice
· Develop longer, analysis-driven features
· Use smartphones and social media to disseminate news broadly and quickly
· Work with managing editor to plan coverage, graphics, videos and photos for stories
· Perform other related duties assigned by managing editor
· Cover hearings, trials, work conferences and other events in person
Qualifications
· At least two years of experience reporting for a daily or trade publication
· Ability to pitch and develop stories through interviews and investigation
· Ability to manage multiple stories concurrently and file by deadline
· Ability to juggle interviews, planning calls and other meetings
· Strong notetaking, news writing and other journalism-related skills
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office and online publishing systems
· Good verbal and organizational skills, keen attention to detail
