Insurance Verification Specialist (Administrative)

Position Overview:
The Insurance Verification Specialist is a dynamic role that includes support in administrative support and insurance verification. The individual in this role is primarily responsible for the timely verification of medical insurance benefits. The Insurance Verification Specialist works under direct supervision to ensure that data is captured and filed in a timely and accurate manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Timely verification of medical insurance benefits
- Calling private insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid to obtain benefit information
- Determining insurance compatibility with healthcare provider programs
- Update and refile claims as needed
- Coordinate with patients regarding their insurance benefits and medical providers programs
- Re-verify existing patient insurance coverage as needed
- Determine if an insurance benefit plan considers selected products appropriate based on patient need
- Additional duties as necessary to ensure the proper verification of medical insurance for patient accounts
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in medical billing is preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and insurance follow-up, preferably in an ENT or Allergy practice.
- Strong knowledge of insurance claim processes, including appeals and denials.
- Proficiency with medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and coding (ICD-10, CPT) is a plus.
