HIPAA Coordinator (Finance)

Job Summary
Functions as the primary resource, in support of the HIPAA Privacy Official, for researching, evaluating, coordinating, and addressing beneficiary requests for individual rights provided by privacy regulations and government contracts.
Education & Experience
Required:
• High school degree or G.E.D. equivalent
• U.S. Citizenship
• Must be able to receive a favorable Interim and adjudicated final Department of Defense (DoD) background investigation
• 4 years administrative experience
Preferred:
• Associate degree in Business Management
• Basic understanding of HIPAA Privacy regulations
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office applications
Key Responsibilities
• Process and resolve HIPAA Privacy Requests and HIPAA Complaints.
• Receives, analyzes and processes HIPAA Privacy requests and HIPAA complaints.
• Prepares course of action for HIPAA Privacy Official review and approval when necessary.
• Prepares analysis of inadvertent disclosures to determine a breach of PHI occurred.
• Prepares required correspondence.
• Updates tracking database to document reported inadvertent disclosures, restriction requests, and HIPAA Privacy complaints.
• Ensures prompt response is made to HIPAA requests.
• Prepares monthly and quarterly reports for internal management purposes and government requirements.
• Maintains policy and procedures documents and desk procedures relating to TriWest's handling of requests for information or complaints under HIPAA regulations.
• Coordinates required records management for HIPAA Privacy compliance by maintaining filing system in line with established records management policies and procedures.
• Actively works to expand HIPAA knowledge and interpret company policies and procedures, developing approaches for compilation of information, analysis, and reaching appropriate conclusions for HIPAA Privacy responses to inquiries from Veterans Affairs or from Veterans themselves.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
